Tis & Vitaly are a boundary-breaking team of a trans nonbinary French-American parent and a Russian-Polish son. Their art straddles surrealism, design, and architecture in a photographic labyrinth of colors, shapes, and materials. In Tis & Vitaly’s world, imaginary metro stations live next to high-ranking boars, vintage blenders emerge out of Swiss lakes, and bloodthirsty puppets run a cartoon photo studio. Their work, always made jointly, dazzles for its sophisticated imagination and its technical virtuosity with materials, surfaces, and light. It also emanates the warmth and emotional depth of a parent-child collaboration, in turn intimate, sarcastic, joyful, or explosive.
